September Sponsor - MyBullfrog.com - Garrity Crossing, Nampa Idaho

So the whole reason I started this blog a year or so ago was to help point out all the people and places that have made us feel "At Home in Boise."  I have a lot of posts to write as we finally feel like we are settling in and becoming part of the community - 2 YEARS LATER!

One of the things that helps me feel connected to my new friends and environment is my smartphone.  Since I'm not necessarily the most tech saavy person on the planet, I like having a "go to" person to help me out when it comes to making good product choices.  Don't get me wrong.  I'm not a total newb when it comes to wireless devices and such, but I will admit the learning curve for me is a lot bigger than it is for my kids.

So I really value my relationships with my friends who are Digital Natives.

Will over at MyBullfrog in Nampa is one of those friends.  The dude is smart and he's friendly and when I have a question about cellphones or plans, he's the guy I go to for answers.  He's never pushy, he knows his stuff and he takes great care of his customers. He also has a wickedly dry sense of humor.

Do you need a "go to" guy in the cellphone business?  Stop by the Mybullfrog.com shop at 1212 N Jacob Alcott Way in Nampa, ID and say hello to Will.  He'll take good care of you.

**Disclaimer: I was not compensated in any form for this post for Mybullfrog.com.  I am sharing this information because I like the business and the products and because Will really is an awesome dude.**

Boise Mini Maker Faire - May 25-26, 2013

It's been entirely too long since I've posted!  The winter was long and cold, the spring was busy and now summer is upon us and the weather is almost too beautiful!!  Our family still has not seen much of the city (or the state for that matter), even though we have lived here for almost 2 years now, so we are looking forward to getting out and exploring Boise more this summer.  Who knows!  We may even venture outside of the city before it's all said and done!  Either way, we'll take lots of pictures and share our experiences with anyone reading the blog so you can get a taste of what life is like in the City of Trees!

So...here's a great activity to kick off the summer:

So what exactly is a "Maker" Faire?  Glad you asked.  I didn't know either.  This is the first ever Mkaer Faire for Boise and it sounds really, really cool, especially for a mom with two really curious boys.
"Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.   Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community."
The original Maker Faire was held in San Mateo California 8 years ago. There are a few major cities like Detroit, Kansas City, Newcastle (UK), and Tokyo which hold “featured” Maker Faires (200+ makers) every year, but smaller community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are popping up all around the United States and the world—including right here in Boise!

What will you see at the Boise Mini Makers Faire?  All kinds of things made by artisans, technicians, programmers, coders, crafters, foodies, performers, and inventors!  Check out wheelchairs made from bicycles and wood, wild fermentation experiments, robot battles and presentations on how to build tiny, livable houses for a minimalist lifestyle.

It all sounds pretty interesting and I love the thought of having a venue for our local "creators" to show off their talents and inventions.  can't wait to check it out and post some photos!

Check out the Boise Mini Maker Faire website for more info!

Advance Auto Parts MONSTER JAM March 8th-9th, 2013

They're Baaaaack!  The Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam is headed back to the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho and if this year is anything like last year, the show should be great!

If you've never been to a Monster Jam, you should definitely take the time to check it out this year!  My family attended the show for the first time last year and had the best time EVER!

I don't know why, but there is something about a car-crushing, high-flying, roaring Monster truck that turns otherwise reserved  people into cheering, yelling, fist-pumping fans!

This year's show has lots of stuff to cheer about!  Not only will it feature long-time favorites like Grave Digger and Maverick, but newcomers Captain America, Monster Mutt Dalmation and Northern Nightmare will be making their Idaho debuts.

In between the truck competitions, fans will stay busy watching ATV races, trying to win giveaways (t-shirt cannons, seat number drawings, etc) and listening to interviews with drivers.  The whole event is very exciting and fast-paced, so it's really hard for kids to get bored.
One of the best parts of the show is the Pit Party, which takes place on Saturday, March 9th from 11:30AM – 12:30PM (Sat. 2PM ticket & Pit Pass required for entry; available to purchase for $10 Adults/$5 Kids).  The Pit Party gives fans a chance to see the trucks up close and meet and talk to drivers.  If your child is interested in getting driver autographs, a great idea would be to go to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam website, print out a coloring page, color it and have one of the drivers sign it at the Pit Party.  That way they'll have a cool memento of their experience!

Pit Party
Tickets for the Nampa Monster Jam show are on sale now, with prices ranging from $22, $30 (Gold Circle) and $45 (Front Row). Kids tickets (ages 2-12) available for select seating are priced at only $10 each**
You can purchase tickets at the Idaho Center Box Office, online at IdahoCenter.com or charge by phone at 208-442-3232.
Special Bonus!!  At home in {Boise} readers can use the code MOMS for a $4 discount on each ticket!!  Whoo-hoo!  See you there!
**Above ticket prices are advance purchase only; all ticket prices are $2 more when purchased the day of the event; tickets may be subject to service charges, facility and handling fees.
